Have you ever heard the saying “The world’s your oyster”; do you know what it means? To give you a little background, as most people know, oysters have the ability to manifest pearls. Just like attaining your goals, it’s a process, of course. The process begins with an irritant, like a grain of sand, getting caught in the oyster. The oyster then defends itself by secreting two different substances which encapsulate the irritant; over time, a pearl is created.
The pearl that the oyster produces represents the goals you want to achieve. I like to think that confidence is what makes the world your oyster. I don’t know about you, but going into 2020, I had a lot of things planned for myself, goals that I just knew were going to come to fruition then the world shut down (the irritant). I blinked, then the next thing I knew, we were a year into our “new normal.” At that time, I had no idea what to expect, but I still had hopes for something bigger (substance one) and I confidently (substance two) went after my goals.
My process showed me that to conquer anything in this life; you must first believe that you can. That belief comes from the confidence you have in yourself. What you think is what you will receive out of this life. If the goal is to receive the pearl—your dreams—
then you have to believe that you have the ability to do what is required to achieve it. Having confidence means believing that no matter the odds, you have self-assurance in your ability to go after what you want.
The irritants are sure to come because life is full of the unknown. You have to be able to bet on yourself no matter what comes. You protect your vision by having faith and confidence. Faith gives you something to hope for, and confidence drives you to go after it.
What setbacks have you faced? What goals have you been too afraid to go after? Friend, I am here to tell you that there’s nothing that you cannot do with confidence. The world opens up to those who are sure of one thing…that one thing is themselves. You have to have an unshakable belief that you can do it, whatever that “it” is for you.
If you’re reading this and think to yourself, “I’m just not there yet,” or “I don’t have that type of confidence,” guess what!? Confidence is not innate. You can start today with what you have. Everyone’s confidence level will be different, and getting there will not look like the next person’s process. What I want you to remember is that positive self-talk builds confidence. Tell yourself this daily:
“No one can do_________ like me.”
“I have all I need to be successful within me.”
“What I do not know, I can learn.”
It may seem silly at first but let me tell you, there’s something powerful about positive self-talk. That, coupled with faith, and boom, the world becomes your oyster. Take a moment, look in the mirror, remind yourself that you got this, and get what’s yours!
