Fall Beauty with Ebony

Hey boo Hey! It’s Beauty with Ebony. And baby, the seasons are changing. The temperature is cooling down, praise the Lord, and nature is making its transition. Maybe you’re like me and excited about being outside or you may choose to be a little cozier inside. It is time to pull out the cute boots, and the cute jackets.
Now, one thing for certain and two things for sure how we wear makeup is definitely changing as well. For those that love to be outside you may have a summer shade and winter shade when it comes to your foundation. And for others that may be too much to keep up with so you may have opted out of foundation and makeup all together. To be honest I used to be the person that didn’t wear makeup. The biggest question I had and I know many others have is how to pick the right foundation. Let’s be honest, the foundation for the brown skin sisters has been limited, actually lacking, in the past. Makeup was initially made with the lighter, ivory, light beige sisters in mind. So it was hard to get makeup, especially foundation, to match without making us look ashy or “casket ready”. Now there are more options for us to choose from when it comes to makeup. Makeup companies are starting to understand we are more than praline, chestnut, or walnut. Companies are starting to understand we have undertones other than red or golden red. We come in a variety of shades and undertones. The reason fenty makeup made such a big splash is because this was a mainstream company that understood this and saw us black and brown girls in all of our beautiful shades and undertones. There are other companies that have always included the “ebony” and “mahogany” shades but you have to be immersed into the makeup world to know about these companies and where to find them. The average person is not aware of brands like aj crimson or william tuttle. So when you go to the makeup store or the drug store you’re shopping for what’s available there and that can be hard, scary and daunting.

There are several black-owned and non black-owned makeup companies that get us and see us. So when it comes to picking foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, cheek color, or lip color it can be scary but if there is a demo available try it. For eyes, cheeks and lips get a cotton swab or use your finger and swatch it on the back of your hand. Now for foundation and concealer, if there is help available, use it; if not look at the pictures for the shades you think are nearest to you choose what best match you. If you are not into foundation and just want spot coverage, concealer that is your skin tone will work. A few brands I suggest to my clients to try are Nars, Makeup Forever, Juvia’s Place, Danessa Myricks, Sephora brand, Maybelline, Urban Decay and Fenty. If you have dry skin, fenty is probably not the best option for you.
Now remember, you still have to make sure you are taking care of your skin when wearing makeup. The makeup looks amazing when the skin prep is amazing.
