Support Systems of Forsyth County (SSFINC): A Transportation Organization Making a Difference

When it comes to reliable and affordable transportation solutions in Forsyth County, one organization stands out from the rest: Support Systems of Forsyth County (SSFINC). This organization was founded to be a catalyst for underserved and underrepresented community members. Their founder, Courtney James, recognized the need for a supportive partner that could communicate the needs of individuals to agencies and organizations on their behalf.

SSFINC is a transportation organization dedicated to helping residents of Forsyth County by providing supportive services. The organization started slow but fruitful. When the founder’s husband became ill, the organization found its niche. Co-owner Greg James’ family approached them about starting a transportation business, and the founder could see the potential for tying transportation to supportive services for individuals in their community. Starting with two vans given to them by the founder’s husband’s brother, SSFINC Transportation began offering services an hour before public transportation and during twilight hours after public transit stops to cater to their customers’ personalized needs. During the pandemic, SSFINC was able to continue providing essential services thanks to the MBE Grant received. The grant program supports local minority-owned businesses, which positively impacts the community. The Entrepreneurial Advisory Committee, made up of Black and Latinx business leaders in Forsyth County, manages the MBE grant program. Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. provides financial oversight and organizational structure for the program.

Before launching SSFINC, Courtney had a professional background in finance, holding positions in banking and treasury services. This experience helped her develop a business model where finances became the organization’s backbone. Her involvement in the North Carolina Treasury Management Association, where she served as Treasurer, also helped her gain knowledge and skills to maintain the organization’s finances.

SSFINC has been a trusted transportation service provider for the residents of Forsyth County. They have also partnered with the ASPIRE workforce readiness program to provide high school juniors and seniors transportation services. The ASPIRE program offers holistic training to help students become work-ready and achieve career success.

The organization has been successful in its mission to support underserved communities by providing transportation services that are tailored to their unique needs. SSFINC is committed to making a difference in the lives of the people it serves, and it strives to achieve its goal of providing affordable and reliable transportation to all residents of Forsyth County.

To book with SSFINC, individuals can call them at 336-464-3126 from 9 am to 3 pm. The organization’s staff is always happy to assist with transit needs and provide exceptional customer service.
