May 21, 1865, is the date that the ending of slavery was announced at The African Moravian Church, now St. Philips Moravian Church.
The church is the oldest standing African American church in the state of North Carolina and still has the original pews. This historic church is located in Old Salem Museum and Gardens.
Come! Enjoy a traditional Moravian Lovefeast which includes the serving of Moravian sweet, spiced buns and the customary spiced tea of the St. Philips Church congregation.
