Financial Pathways of the Piedmont: Empowering Financial Well-Being in Winston Salem

Financial Pathways of the Piedmont, formerly known as Consumer Credit Counseling of Forsyth County, has been a cornerstone of the Triad community since its establishment in 1972. Initially created in response to a surge in bankruptcy filings, the agency has evolved into a comprehensive financial counseling agency, dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve financial well-being for over five decades.
Financial Pathways of the Piedmont offers four main programs. Their Financial Management and Debt Counseling program helps with budgeting, financial literacy, and credit rebuilding. Understanding that our senior citizens and disabled populations are some of the most vulnerable in the community, they offer Senior Financial Care and a Representative Payee Program, providing in-home financial services for seniors, and payee services for the disabled.

In 2002, The Center for Homeownership was founded. Today, this comprehensive housing program serves individuals who want to make the dream of homeownership a reality through removing barriers to homeownership and providing access to up to $85,000 in downpayment assistance. This program is crucial in a market where rising rents and home prices outpace income growth.
One of their most compelling success stories comes from client Lanique Adams, who achieved her dream of homeownership through The Center for Homeownership (CHO). This pivotal moment provided stability for her children and set a powerful example. Years later, Lanique’s daughter, inspired by her mother’s journey, became a homeowner through CHO at just 23, illustrating the impact of the agency’s work to build generational wealth.

Underscoring their commitment to holistic support and emotional well-being for both clients and employees, Financial Pathways has prioritized the importance of mental health among their staff through the creation of “Safe Space”. Launching this Fall, Safe Space will provide staff with a dedicated space to decompress after emotionally challenging appointments. “My vision for Safe Space is to be a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation, providing our employees with a tranquil escape from the stresses of the workday. Just as our staff are deeply committed to their work with clients, we are committed to their overall well-being in the workplace.” -Russell Dye, Employee Experience Coordinator.
Financial Pathways of the Piedmont remains dedicated to empowering individuals and families throughout the Triad, as well as to building a more financially resilient community, thus serving as a vital resource in the future financial landscape of Winston Salem.
