Summertime Beauty with Ebony

Hey boo hey! It is summertime and the beauty tips I gave in the spring issue are relevant for the summer! Be sure to follow Triad Voice Magazine and myself, Ebony S Hairston on Instagram for tutorials and tips.
So I recently spoke to a group of cosmetology students at GTCC about being a licensed makeup artist and makeup application. When it comes to applying makeup, one of the most important things a person can do is make sure the skin is prepped correctly. The conversation started with them asking me questions about skin prep for themselves, and like any professional, I asked: “what are you using, and what is your routine?” The routine was not the issue, it was the type of moisturizer they were using. This got me to thinking, a lot of women are opting in to simplify their skincare routine. Studies show that people are using multi-benefit products. Multi-benefit products are fine, but if you have oily skin, using a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid before applying makeup, will give you a little more dewiness or glowiness than you prefer.
Your skin prep for makeup starts with the moisturizer. If you have oily skin look for moisturizers that contain words like “oil-free”, “gel”, “mattifying” and some even say “for oily skin”. If the product says for “dry, oily and combination skin”, I would not suggest using that moisturizer before applying makeup. Now, if you have dry skin, a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid is fine before makeup. If you are a combination skin girly, and you are oily in the “T-zone” use an oil free moisturizer. Otherwise you can use a moisturizer for dry skin.
*Side Note: A skincare hack that I personally love and do (and I’m a combination girly with only dry areas in the crease by nose) is using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid or argan oil at night. I moisturize my face like I have dry skin at night. In the morning I cleanse my face as normal and use my oil free moisturizer with an spf of 30.
Now after moisturizer and some type of sun barrier, you use a primer that is best suited for your skin. One of the things I love the most about primers is, it states if it is for dry or oily skin. The primers may also use words like hydrating or mattifying. After primer you are ready for your foundation. If you feel your face has more “shine” than you would like, use a translucent powder and lightly dust the “shiny” areas or dab your face with a beauty blotter. Now contrary to the shine and your face is feeling a little dry or tight, give your face a fresh with a squirt of mario badescu rose water spray.
Combine this with the beauty tips from the spring issue and baby it is a whole look. If wearing foundation during the summer is too much, that’s ok. The appropriate skincare routine, cute gloss or tinted lip balm and a cute pair of shades is still a look too. Be sure to follow me on all platforms so you can see the tips in action.
As Always love you boo!
